90's Luxe Discoball Decorations Wedding Inspo in Manchester's Urban Jungle

Another busy day evolved in the heart our country's beloved second city; not somewhere you would immediately imagine that a romantic joining of two souls in marriage would quietly take place.

However, nestled away in the Green Quarter, surrounded by the striking features of the city's industrial past, sits the very cool, very unique venue of GRUB, Redbank.

The venue not only lends itself brilliantly to a 90s era theme, but the sheer light and space within the main room was the perfect setting to create a unique, alternative celebration of love.

In order to create such a setting of luxe discoball decorations, romantic tones and textures for our couple Dani & Jason to exchange their vows, we had to assemble a serious team of local, passionate suppliers with the exact same vision, who could bring this to life.

Retro era, luxe wedding setting

The venue is elevated on a slight hill that gives epic views around half of the city, so you know exactly where you are and the photos would tell the same story.

The entrance is colourful and inviting, and up the even more colourful stairs you arrive at a light, white room with painted concrete flooring, a typical late 70's construction style, but provides endless light with dual aspect. A total blank canvas oozing grungy, urban vibes ready for us to put our style, textures and colours into.

Concept & design with discoball decorations

To truly transform the white blank space into a beautifully colourful, romantic setting, I could have only enlisted the truly impeccable talents of Kate from Florence & Vera Events.

Kate literally has an Aladdin's Cave of Wonders style room full of stunning, intricate items and styling decor and one hell of an eye for turning my vision into reality.

The aim was to bring colour and fun to the main space, but when it came down to designing the tablescape, we wanted to ensure this oozed luxury, originality and most importantly texture.

The colour palette was kept more muted for this, keeping with pinks, blacks and natural bieges with accents of gold tones to give everything a glamourous, luxe wedding finish. The crockery and glassware was supplied by Whitehouse Crockery and wonderfully complemented the overall look.

However, the entire concept would not have been complete without the incredibly bold, colourful additions from Love Lights The Way, which transformed the space with several neons, coloured ceiling streamers and lighting.

Bridalwear & Groomswear

I had decided quite early on in the planning process that I'd really like to feature a designer who wasn't already being used in loads of other shoots, plus of course ensuring the dresses were sustainable. Queue Frock Goddess. Based in Stockport, Jenny creates her designs bespoke from vegan & cruelty-free materials including silk.

After looking through her online portfolio and deciding her elegant, understated designs were the perfect addition to the shoot, we began discussing which of her current stock dresses she would bring, and then decided she would make something bespoke too!

For Jason's look, I enlisted the brilliant, hugely popular Marc Darcy Suits who literally let me pick anything I wanted like it was Pick n' Mix, I was in my element.

I chose a neutral colour for the suit and tried to steer away from black tie or tweed, as not only are they overdone, but I needed something to fit the brief perfectly, that wasn't going to out-do nor under-value the whole aesthetic. Paired with some incredible shoes and a nice tie, the whole outfit felt just right, Jason looked very dapper.

To accessorise Dani and her bridal look, we had the simply gorgeous, hand-made beauties from Silver Sixpence in her Shoe. The showstopping piece was certainly the embellished headband with pearls & gold astrological elements which just added so much depth and beauty to Dani's hair, make up and dress.

We had not one, not two, but three outfit changes during this shoot. We couldn't not use everything Nicola brought with her, including some beautiful earrings and a Bridal beree!

Her entire look would not have been complete if it weren't for the incredible talents of Lisa Simms, who styled her hair and makeup to perfectly enhance her outfits and accessories, with an added changeup half way through the shoot to give Dani a more glam, evening party look complete with pearl eye adornments.

In all, I could have gone further and further, including more discoball decorations, larger setups and enormous floral arrangements, but that wouldn't have reflected what we were aiming to show, we were showing what is possible to achieve sustainably with effortless style and not necessarily a huge budget.
