Chic City Wedding in Manchester at The Black Friar, Salford | Free Bird Weddings & Events

city wedding manchester

Creating, planning, and coordinating this gorgeous city wedding in Manchester at The Black Friar in Salford was a wonderfully rewarding experience. Inspired by the venue's rich history and modern charm, I designed a concept and colour palette, then sourced local suppliers who would bring out the very best of this beautiful location.

The Black Friar, with its blend of old-world charm and contemporary elegance, provided a stunning backdrop for our shoot. Nestled in between modern apartment blocks & offices, the little building just throws you right back to when the heart of Manchester was a bustling, industrial hive.

I envisioned a theme that married this history with modern sophistication, using an earthy, neutral colour palette of terracota, soft blush, and rich metallics. These colours not only complemented the venue’s aesthetic but also added a touch of warmth and opulence.

To bring this vision to life, I collaborated with some of the finest local suppliers in the industry.

Fiore Dorato Flowers created exquisite floral arrangements that were nothing short of breathtaking. Gemma designed and provided a floral arch, floral meadows, a simple, elegant bouquet and bud vases, which featured a lush mix of toffee roses, shimmer roses, spray rose and a mixture of greenery, perfectly aligning with our colour scheme. The flowers added a romantic and luxurious feel to the setting, enhancing every detail with their beauty and fragrance.

Now onto the cake! Laura from Cakes by Yolk crafted a masterpiece that was both visually stunning and delicious. The cake featured a very beautiful, simple textured white design and was adorned with a chic black bow that perfectly matched our theme. Its elegance was a focal point, drawing admiration from everyone present. The artistry and flavours were impeccable, making it a standout piece in the impressive space.

Amy Louise Photography captured the essence of our shoot with her exceptional eye for detail and creativity. Her photos told a story of elegance and romance, capturing the interplay of light and colour in a way that brought our concept to life. Each image reflected the beauty of the venue and the meticulous planning that went into the shoot, providing a visual narrative that was both captivating and inspiring.

Oh Sew Lovely Bridal added the finishing touches with their stunning bridal accessories. Antonia's pieces included delicate velvet embroidered bows with each guest's name on, providing not only a unique place setting idea, but a keep-sake for each guest to take home. Her embroidered denim jackets added a little edgy vibe to the overall theme, which was a perfect addition. These accessories added an extra layer of sophistication and refinement, ensuring that every aspect of the bridal look was cohesive and harmonious.

We also had incredibly talented Make Up by HD's Hannah to transform Jasmine's look. Somehow she managed to blend neutral tones to match the overall colour palette and perfectly enhance her outfit.

Additional details I included were stunning eco-friendly jewellery pieces created by Nacre & Rock, using freshwater pearls and silver. They not only completed Jasmine's bridal look, but elevated it completely while matching the setting's opulance.

And finally, what would a wedding be without confetti?

I was lucky enough to be sent some beautiful, naturally scented dried petals from the Real Flower Petal Confetti Co, straight from the flower fields of Worcestershire. I even had the opportunity to choose shades matching the colour palette, which every customer does. They billowed beautifully in the wind, enabling Amy to capture it like falling snowflakes. Swoon.
